Executive Director Position

The Community Design Center of Rochester (CDCR) is looking to hire an Executive Director (ED) to lead our mission – based non – profit organization. 

The CDCR was founded in the late 1990’s and incorporated in 2003. The CDCR promotes healthy, sustainable communities by encouraging quality design, placemaking and thoughtful use of natural and built resources. Please refer to our mission and vision at www.cdcrochester.org

The Executive Director is a regular full time salaried position, 32 - 40 hours per week. A minimum of 32 hours per week shall be performed in the office. The ED will provide strategic vision and leadership for CDCR in program development and implementation, promotions and advocacy. Hire and guide staff resources, and skill levels to yield high quality work. Manage and maintain strong relationships with the board, staff, consultants, volunteers, peer organizations; as well as municipalities and institutional partners, and the media. Manage day-to-day operations including two staff position (currently), volunteers and committees, the physical office and gallery space, and an annual operating budget of approximately $150,000.

 

PROGRAM

Ensure continued success and growth of the Reshaping Rochester Speaker Series, currently in its 18th year. Oversee the annual Awards program as both a meaningful community recognition event and as an organizational fundraiser. Create and implement direct fee services including, community engagement facilitation, vision planning, and design workshops. Track, evaluate, and report outcomes of CDCR programs and projects to ensure success from a mission and operational perspective.

 

COMMUNITY RELATIONS

The ED the face of the organization, building visibility and garnering goodwill. Manage existing and cultivate new relationships, both internally and externally to advance the mission of the CDCR. Coordinate advocacy efforts in accordance with the strategic plan.

 

FUNDRAISING

Coordinate and implement fundraising efforts and related relationship building activities. Use innovative approaches to pursue fundraising opportunities and sponsors. Build financial strength through development of diverse resources to support both existing operations and future growth. Manage public and private grants to ensure compliance with all funder requirements.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Passionate about CDCR’s mission and services. Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in the field of public administration, business management, planning, architecture, or design-related field strongly preferred. Superior verbal and written communication skills. Minimum of 5 years of experience in the planning, architecture or design field; or in non- profit administration of any related field.  Experience in direct supervision of staff preferred. Experience in non-profit administration and managing volunteers strongly preferred.  Entrepreneurial and self-motivated in production of work, business development, and fundraising.  Basic technology skills including zoom, social media, and computer literacy.  Helpful but not required licensed design professional or certified planner.

Design Manager Position

The Community Design Center Rochester (CDCR) is looking to hire a tech savvy Design Manager to join our mission-based non-profit team.

 

The CDCR promotes healthy, sustainable communities by encouraging quality design of the built environment and thoughtful use of built and natural resources. CDCR advocates for good design in the Greater Rochester Region.

 

The Design Manager is a regular part-time hourly position, 24-32 hours per week. A minimum of 24 hours per week shall be performed in the CDCR office. Flexible hours for candidates with families. Requirements:

Undergraduate or graduate degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or Environmental Design with some experience and a strong interest in urban design and placemaking. The ideal candidate will possess sound abilities in time management, organization, design, and visual and verbal communication. The position requires a desire and ability to work with community groups and a commitment to civic engagement and participatory citizen-based planning. Candidate must possess the ability to work independently and see projects through from inception to completion, while collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders.

 

Technical Skills:

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop) and preferably experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, SketchUp or other modeling software.

Position Responsibilities

  • Client relationship management and relationship building across New York.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:      

The Department of Architecture in the Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS) at Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor for its Master of Architecture program. Responsibilities include the following:

 

Teaching

This faculty’s primary responsibility is to teach required courses in the curriculum. Typically, this includes one 6-cr design studio and one 3-cr lecture course within the Integrated Building Systems course sequence during two academic terms per year. Additionally, this faculty member will help advise thesis students and teach an additional elective course every other year. The M Arch program is offered on campus as well as online and all faculty are assigned to teach in both realms and modalities. Please note that the Online Master of Architecture program runs during fall, spring, and summer terms; therefore, an opportunity exists to teach and advise students during the summer term via overload or teaching load shifting.

For this position, the technical area of expertise sought is Building Sciences/Technology, which includes all or some of the following: architectural materials and assemblies, site, structural, MEP, building performance analysis depending on the specific Integrated Building Systems course taught. This faculty member will teach Building Sciences/Technology content in corequisite lecture and studio courses; therefore, the lecture and studio courses assigned to the successful candidate will be in related content areas. 

 

Scholarship

RIT recognizes five forms of scholarship: scholarship of discovery, scholarship of integration, scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching, and scholarship of engagement. Furthermore, the Department of Architecture uses the 2017 ACSA “Research and Scholarship for Promotion, Tenure, and Reappointments in

The Department of Architecture is in the Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS) and aligned with the College of Art & Design (CAD). The Master of Architecture offers two separate degree pathways – the “Standard” pathway – a 3+ year offering for those with undergraduate degrees unrelated to architecture, and the “Advanced Standing” pathway – a 2+ year offering for those with undergraduate degrees related to architecture. The Master of Architecture is a NAAB accredited degree that provides a uniquely dynamic, evolving, and integrated curriculum. The mission of the RIT Master of Architecture Department is to provide professional education programs for aspiring architects that are based on sustainable design with particular emphasis on context and the integration with technology.

 

The Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS) at Rochester Institute of Technology is a leading research center in the burgeoning field of sustainability, conducting over $13 million of externally sponsored research per year.  In addition to the Master of Architecture, an M.S. in Sustainable Systems, and Ph.D. in Sustainability are also offered. The LEED platinum-certified Sustainability Institute Hall, a $38 million, 84,000 ft2 facility dedicated to the GIS academic program serves as a center for sustainability research, technology transfer, education, and outreach; and provides a state-of-the-art “living, learning, laboratory” for sustainable design and green construction.   • A professional degree in architecture (B Arch, M Arch, D Arch or equivalent) or PhD in a field related to architecture. If candidates hold a B Arch, they must also hold a Master’s level degree or higher.

Senior Project Manager - Architecture

Our team of talented and creative architects work closely as trusted partners with our clients throughout the design process to realize a jointly conceived vision. We offer a full range of services from preliminary planning and feasibility studies through final design and construction inspection for both full build-out, renovations and adaptive reuse projects. Our markets include commercial development, warehousing, pre K-12 and higher education, science and technology, municipal and public works agencies, offices and corporate facilities, and retail and food.

 

Our in-house team of architects, interior designers, engineers, and planners skillfully balance design constraints with the clients’ needs and desired outcome. This creates collaborative, dynamic and timeless designs. Our professionals also provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design; programming, corporate branding, standards integration, workstation specification, facilities and construction management support, energy solutions, and LEED certification. We take pride in delivering results that are innovative, sustainable and award winning.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with colleagues to promote an inter-disciplinary and collaborative design culture.

  • Responsible for leading, overseeing, supervising, and coordinating project activities.

  • Fulfill the role of Project Architect and AOR on most projects; pending the size/complexity of projects a separate project architect may be assigned.

  • Ensure the success of the projects under their management.

  • Serve as the primary design liaison to the client and oversight of construction documents.

  • May assign tasks to and oversee the work of design/production staff.

  • Coordinates all communication between the client and CED, ensuring timely resolution of client concerns and management of business issues including contracts and additional services.

  • Delivers clear and timely feedback/communication to the project team.

  • Monitors the performance of the project team and approach, to ensure that CED's quality standards and design goals are met.

  • Establishes, maintains and documents regular project-related meetings including client, internal team and consultants’ meetings.

  • Considers risk management by monitoring client issues and technical issues in a timely manner to minimize liability.

  • Completely integrates the design and technical aspects of a project.

  • Initiates, documents and maintains project setup, including contract review, project process and filing procedures, work authorizations and assisting accounting in timely distribution of invoices.

  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding the financial goals established for the project and providing timely and appropriate information to Accounting to initiate invoicing.

  • Has direct contact responsibility with clients and associated consultants, to ensure timely collections and management of delinquent accounts receivables.

  • Ensures the orderly and complete preparation, distribution and retention of all project written records.

  • Understands design philosophies, overall building design concepts, design software and delivery methods.

  • Understands and responds to the technical implications of design decisions.

  • Defines, monitors and maintains control of the scope of work and services for the project including schedule and work plan.

  • Prepares client and consultant proposals, fees, schedules and contracts.

  • Behaves consistently with integrity, trust and commitment.

  • Promotes the office culture and studio mentorship within the office.

Qualifications

  • At least 10+ years of architectural experience.

  • Bachelor of Architecture from an accredited university required.

  • Completed or in process NCARB Certification.

  • Architecture Licensure Required.

  • Experience with Revit & AutoCad a plus.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite & Adobe Photoshop a plus.

Compensation: $100,468 - $124,800 DOQ.
